P & G, Colgate Beat Street’s Expectations

April 30, 2009

This is positive news for the economy because even though both companies raised prices, people continued to consume the higher priced brands of these two top-tier consumer products companies.  Typically in a recession consumers flee higher priced brand names for the lower costs of generic and store brands.  Read the full story here:

Stock Jumps, Best Buy Forecast Optimistic, WS Responds

March 27, 2009

Another thanks to Rich Roedger for this contribution!

It’s no surprise that Best Buy is giddy about it’s future, I mean with Circuit City’s weekly Sunday insert no longer competing, the road is paved for Best Buy to flourish, until some intrepid entrepreneuer decides to challenge Goliath for a share of the consumer electronics market.  Other companies are also reporting good earnings, and good outlooks for 09.  The news has gone from being terrible to being not as bad as expected the article goes on to say, and that’s positive news for an economy that has to go to little websites like mine and Eldons to get anything positive.  I’ll frankly be glad if mainstream picks up the pace and realizes they’re cutting off their nose to spite their face.  They reach a lot more consumers than we do here, and it’ll have such a positive effect on people, which in this economy, is much needed right now… We’ve got a little traction, now lets rock the car and get it out of this rut!! Have great weekend everyone.

I will be on spring break with my family next week in Myrtle Beach SC.  If I don’t get around to posting much, you’ll know why.  I’m sure Eldon over at the Positive News Economist will pick up my slack :-)

Many companies are still profitable.  Not quite as profitable as 2007, however still profitable, and THAT is the good news for our economy and employment.

Good News For Toshiba, Citigroup

March 11, 2009

Thanks to reader/contributor Michael Weissman for this submission:

NEW YORK/TOKYO (Reuters) – Citigroup said it was profitable in the first two months of 2009 and Toshiba was reported to be set for an operating profit of $1 billion next year, two rare shards of corporate news to lift markets.

Banks are doing well in the markets today, for what it’s worth. I think the most we can say is that investors aren’t looking at banks as sure-losers.

Good Times For Dollar Tree

February 25, 2009

It only makes sense, but it’s good to confirm that Dollar Tree along with Walmart are a few of the companies doing well in this recession.  As consumers flock for lower prices to stretch their dollars it gives confidence in employees at these two companies that they won’t be one standing in line for unemployment.
